Credit Cards can be used fraudulently in the real world as well as the internet. Unfortunately, the sheer intuitiveness and ease of credit card purchases works against itself in the sense that Credit Card theft is easier to commit online. It is therefore important for the credit card holder to be responsible with his or her card. Here are some credit card safety tips:

Be careful about which websites you use your credit card on. On secure pages, most web browsers such as Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer will show a locked lock on the status bar. Also pay attention to the URL address. Secure sites will start with the letter HTTPS instead of HTTP.

Apply only with credible credit card companies. Credit Card companies want your business, and will do anything to ensure that your stay with them will be worth your while. But only the big-name companies have the necessary confidence and resources required to cover all charges that result from unauthorized use of your credit card. Most of them even limit your liability, regardless of how much the fraudulent charge is, to $50 US dollars. Your only challenge in here is to prove to the bank that the charges are really fraudulent. Always keep records and evidences and follow the reporting procedures defined by your credit card company. Contact them immediately as soon as the problem becomes apparent, because delaying your incident report will almost always work against you.
